A Black and White Minimal Art Photograph of a Four Lights Versus The Cloud, shot at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur.

This shot was taken right before the Entrance of Cafe Quaint, Jawahar Kala Kendra. I always wanted to shoot these Four Lights but I never found much aesthetic beauty in the frame, even with birds flying across against them.

But, today I found an Abstract Cloud floating in the Sky and I thought that would provide a good Juxtaposition to the Static well shaped Four Lights set.

The Cloud is the reason this frame exists.

OK, but I did a mistake, I shot this Colored. I should have shot this in Black and White.

But, That is OK, I made this Monochrome during Editing.

You see, Photo Frames with clouds in the Sky look amazing in Black and White. Next time, whenever I am to compose a Photograph with a Cloud in the frame, I will shoot in the Black and White/Monochrome mode.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 100 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/10

  • Shutter Speed: 1/4000 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-640

  • Focal Length: 100 mm

  • Metering mode: Spot

  • Exposure program: Manual

Hope you enjoyed the Four Lights Vs The Cloud Minimalist Photograph.

Here one can spot the Juxtaposition between two Geometrical Forms:

a) Circle ie the White Balloon Vs

b) The Squares aka Windows.

The White Balloon that you see, was very far from the wall and it was continuously moving. So I had to take quite a few shots to place it properly in the frame.

Also, you can see a little perspective distortion as I was multi layering the shot and moving quite a bit. I chose not edit the perspective/line distortion, as I generally don't do it and also because it looks somewhat OK to me.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 50 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/18

  • Shutter Speed: 1/250 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-500

  • Focal Length: 50 mm

  • Metering mode: Spot

  • Exposure program: Manual

What we have here is:

"A Black and White Minimal Art Photograph of a Window with Horizontal Blinds, placed on a White Wall with Diagonal lines created by Light and Shadows."

What motivated me to shoot this as a Subject was primarily two factors:

1) The Lines created by Nature.

2) How there were only a handful Horizontal Lines amongst the many Multiple Diagonal Lines.

All that I had to do here was to punch in the right exposure settings in my Camera and leave some Negative /Empty space on the right hand side :)

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 50 mm Lens

  • F-stop: f/7.1

  • Shutter Speed: 1/320 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-100

  • Exposure bias: 0 step

  • Focal Length: 50 mm

  • Metering mode: Spot

  • Flash mode: No flash

  • Exposure program: Manual

  • White Balance: Auto

Good Evening People. "I hope this POST finds you in the best of your health and spirit." If not, then you better be exercising. Ahh, did I just mention exercise?

Yes I did. I used to avoid exercising as I am a lazy fellow or lets say, I was. Lately, I have discovered Walking.

Although it is easy to do but at the same time it has huge benefits. Don't believe me? Try and google it for yourself. When I did, I was amazed to find out that by walking just 30 minutes a day, one can prevent so many diseases. Well "Simplicity works" you see !!!

And that's precisely the reason I mentioned this today.

Being a Minimalist, I have now shifted my attention to the simple things in life that we tend to ignore,

just like how we cannot spot a Minimalist Subject, despite it being right in front of our eyes. It all requires practice and a sense of observation. But before you practice, you must begin somewhere right? The first step to it is "Intent" and trust me all you need to do is "Develop the Intent to observe simple things. The rest will follow."

That said, lets get back to the Minimalist Photograph

The above photo falls under the Minimalism Type: Zeroism, which I have explained in the Types of Minimalism post.

As mentioned there, the above photo does not reflect any real world object/subject at first glance or even at a closer look.

The Viewer is kept guessing. The eye keeps moving. Yet this photo is a Minimalist Photograph. You may want to call it Maximalist but I am very clear about it that it is Minimalist and I can explain.

The only subject here is the juxtaposition between colorful curves versus the vertical lines. That's it. This, in total is one element (or maybe you can call it two).

The subject is actually a frosted finish plastic house gate, lit by the suns rays. The photograph has been taken around 4 pm in the afternoon in the harsh sun.

You can also call the above photograph as an abstract photograph. But we, The Minimalists tend to call most pictures Minimal, till the time the elements are less and there is some bit of symmetry, geometry, logic or explanation in them.

If you cant explain a Minimalistic photograph with the Rules of Minimalism, only then one can call it pure abstract.

I hope that clears it out. If not, then wait for more posts under the Zeroism Label. OR else, if you plan to visit Jaipur- India sometime, we can meet and have a discussion on this over coffee.

See you next time. Take Care.

Happy Clicking !!!

Cloud Vs the Lamp

 Minimalism as Less Elements

Here, I have shown the juxtaposition between two shapes/forms

a) the Abstract Cloud, having no particular form or shape, Versus
b) The Curve of the Lamp, which has a clearly defined form/shape.

As you can see I have left negative space on the left, to make the interaction between the two forms/shapes stand out. It was a very tricky shot as and I had to maneuver a lot. I moved quite a bit to my left, to first get the cloud right behind the lamp visually. The cloud  was way above the lamp and there was a huge gap between them. To correct that, I moved near the lamp by walking towards it, and went down on my knees to bring the cloud down. The final adjustment was positioning the lamp right in the center of the moving cloud.

The Minimalism Classification:

Minimalism Type: Minimalism as Less Elements

The Elements: Lamp, Cloud, Small Bird

Hope you enjoyed the photo and the behind the scenes action. Do leave your feedback below. Thank you.

Juxtaposition: Geometry Vs Abstract form

A Monochrome Minimalist Photograph of the abstract form/shadow of the round dome versus geometrical shapes at Amer Fort, Jaipur

The Juxtaposition between Simple Geometric shapes i.e rectangles and the Abstract shadow/shape  the "Gol Gumbad" or the Round Dome(in English) is shown here.

Wow, that was long and confusing, isn't it? Sometimes, my head just spins while taking such tricky Minimalist Photographs. I try so many different shots and angles and at times I end up erasing all photos of a particular shot/subject and start all over again. This did not happen this time around as finally, I got what I was looking for.

What caught my attention, was the overlapping shadow of the Gumbad on the second rectangle and the way it was curving down to the right. Initially, the shadow flirted for a while with the vertical line of the rectangle but she, probably was not interested and therefore the shadow slipped down further to the right. The key to the shot was, placing right the two rectangles, that's it. Once I did that, I moved a little to the left and the to the right, for adjustment and bang everything was perfect.

Hope you enjoyed the photograph.
