I clicked this image of Two Pink Chairs at Nibs Cafe Jaipur.

One of my friends called me there for a cup of Coffee and some Pasta :)

I don't spare Cafes even. Oh well, you know it by now ;)

I got motivated to click this because, the Pink Color stood out nicely against the Blue Brick Wall.

Next thing that came to my mind was, How to compose the frame to make it look decently interesting?

So, I decided to go with the Parts of the Whole Minimalism Strategy.

I clicked only a part of both the Pink Chairs and left some gap in between.

I made sure that I included the Blue Pipe on the top to add an extra pop/element (line) to the frame.

The Texture on the wall was good and the chairs were flat. So that contrast also helped.

The EXIF Data for the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Maker: Canon

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 100 mm Prime Macro L Series Lens

  • F-stop: f/4

  • Metering mode: Spot

  • Flash mode: No flash

  • Exposure program: Manual

Another Shot that I clicked on the Photowalk that was held at Amber Fort on 19th August 2018 World Photography Day.

Amber fort is an uphill climb, both to visit the Fort and the Temple at the Top Area.

These Elephants are usually hired by foreign tourist to go up the Fort.

This Elephant that I clicked had just come downstairs after his ride.

He was resting along with a few of his co-worker friends.

Minimalism as Parts of the Whole i.e Shooting just the Elephant's Trunk and a bit of his face was the best Minimalist Photo I could think of.

The EXIF Data for the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Maker: Canon

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 100 mm Prime Macro L Series Lens

  • F-stop: f/13

  • Shutter Speed: 1/200 sec.

What we have here is A Minimalist Photograph of the Parts of Two Yellow Chairs against the Red Walls of Jawahar Kala Kendra - Jaipur

I spotted these Two Yellow Chairs right outside one of the Art Galleries at Jawahar Kala Kendra

The exhibition was organized by Doon Academy Jaipur and the content of the exhibition was Art made by young school kids out of waste.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the talent of young children. They used Ice-cream sticks, News papers, Ear-buds etc to make wonderful common household items like, Table Lamps, Pen Stands, Wall Mirrors etc.

Right before entering the exhibition, is when I captured this shot.

I was down on my knees for this. I realized that I should be taking more Minimalist Photographs from a low angle.

Also, as promised earlier, I have finally posted a Colored Minimalist Photograph after along time.

One more thing is that shooting Minimalism as Parts of the Whole really makes me happy.

The Two Yellow Chairs have been partially cut and carefully placed in the frame, I did so by me going down on my knees and capturing this Photograph from on a very low angle.

On top of the chairs, you see a lot of Negative Space. This is a very typical Non-busy, Simplistic, and Imaginative Minimalist Photograph.

The EXIF Data for the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Maker: Canon

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 100 mm Prime Macro L Series Lens

  • F-stop: f/5.6

  • Shutter Speed: 1/250 sec.

Again, this shot of Lamp and Lines was taken at Orbit Mall, Jaipur.

I was standing on the Staircase at 1st Floor and I was looking down.

I was quite far from the Subject and I used the Canon 100mm Lens to capture this.

The Lamp is my primary subject here and other than that I have used Two Lines, one of the staircase and one of the garden wall, as complimentary subjects

Since the Elements are very few and the Photo is fairly simple, This Minimalist Photograph goes in the Minimalism as Less Elements category of Minimalist Photography / Minimalism.

The EXIF Data for the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Maker: Canon

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 100 mm Prime Macro L Series Lens

  • F-stop: f/22

  • Shutter Speed: 1/250 sec.

Stairs and Lines

Minimalism as Simple Geometry

A Black and White Minimalist Photograph of a part of a Staircase at Orbit Mall, Jaipur, Shot on Canon EOS 6D Mark II with 100 mm Lens

This Sunday I went to Orbit Mall to snap some photographs. This Mall is very near to my house. Well, I would say about 300 meters away.

I have always gone far away from my house to shoot pictures, so this time I thought why not try a place that is nearby.

So this mall is almost abandoned now. I remember that a long time ago, I used to go to this place to buy groceries and household items and also to have some nice Chinese food.

But now, most of the Shops are shut and the only highlight is the Passport Office they shifted here.

Since I am not the "In your face Photographer", I always ask permission from the mall guard before snapping any pictures.

The mall guard granted me permission without much resistance. He probably thought I would click some pictures with my cellphone.

So, I walked inside and took my Canon EOS 6D Mark II out of my Camera Bag. It had the long bulky Canon EOS 100 mm L Series Macro Lens attached to it.

I took some 5 minutes to take a few test shots. At minute 6, the mall guard approached me and told me its enough for the day.

He probably got scared looking at the Large DSLR that I was shooting with. He thought I was probably a press reporter.

I told him honestly, I am hobby photographer and I shoot art and that too for myself.

He kind of went a little soft listening to this. Then I showed him what pictures I actually shot inside the mall aka the test shots.

He was OK then. He said, "Carry on" and left.

Well, I knew I had hit the jackpot.

Not because I could take 1000's of pictures, but because there were some fantastic frames that could be crafted.

I came back with 50 odd shots and about 5 were pretty good to my liking.

The 10% ratio is decent ;)

I have been shooting monochrome recently and my Instagram Feed is mostly Black and White as of now.

Therefore, this shot is also in Black and White.

But, I think that I must post some colored shots soon as well. Stay tuned for them to be posted.

More on the Shot

As far as this shot goes. This Picture titled "Stairs and Lines" is basically Minimalism as Simple Geometry.

You can see, I used Lines as the only element here and with them I tried to create a unique frame

I shot only a part of the Staircase and placed it on the top left of the frame and then placed extra lines (one of which is created by paint on the wall) on the right side.

The EXIF Data for the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Maker: Canon

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 100 mm Prime Macro L Series Lens

  • F-stop: f/32

  • Shutter Speed: 1/80 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-8000

  • Exposure bias: 0 step

  • Focal Length: 100 mm

  • Metering mode: Spot

  • Flash mode: No flash

What we have here is A Black and White Minimalist Photograph of a Little boy roaming around at the Open Air Amphitheater at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur.

I have posted a Minimalism as in Small Objects Photograph after a long time on my blog.

The Small Object here being The Little Boy.

It took me about 3 shots to get the boy right in the center.

It had a lot to do with timing.

I am generally on "One Shot" Focus and "Single Shot" shutter settings.

This was not shot on a continuous shutter therefore.

So yes, I timed this one.

The Little Boy came on this path 2 times and I got him nicely placed in the center of the path and the frame in his second appearance.

The EXIF Data for the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Maker: Canon

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 100 mm Prime Macro L Series Lens
  • F-stop: f/25

  • Shutter Speed: 1/250 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-1600

  • Exposure bias: 0 step

  • Focal Length: 100 mm
  • Metering mode: Spot

  • Flash mode: No flash

  • Exposure program: Manual

  • White Balance: Auto

Hope you enjoyed the Little Boy's Minimalist Photograph.

This is a Macro / Closeup Photograph of a Kitty's Face that I clicked at the Mad About Dogs pet store in Jaipur.

I have a stray cat and I purchase my food for her from that store.

I went to that store one day with my Canon EOS 6D Mark II and the 100 mm Macro Lens that I have.

They have a few Cats and Dogs for sale in the store and they freely roam around and play with the incoming customers / visitors.

This Cat was comfortably sitting on the billing counter while I was paying for my bill.

I thought It would be a good idea to click a Macro Photograph of hers as she was very still.

Initially, I captured the regular Cat Eyes closeup shots, but soon I remembered, that I could shoot Minimalism as Parts of the Whole.

Therefore, I only shot half of her face in Portrait Mode, with her Nose, Mouth and her Whiskers being visible.

Let's also take a quick look at the EXIF Data for the Photograph.

The EXIF Data for the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Maker: Canon

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon Canon 100 mm Prime Macro L Series Lens

  • F-stop: f/2.8

  • Shutter Speed: 1/100 sec.
