A Minimalist Photograph of a Square Versus Abstract Light Squares on a Red Wall at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur.

What I spotted here first, was the Four Light Abstract Squares on the Red Wall. These were formed due to light passing through an open window with 4 glass panes in it, right behind me.

Now, I had to contrast these Abstract Light Squares with something. So, I looked for a Geometric subject to go with it.

There was a Square on the wall next to this one. To include that with the Abstract Light Squares I shot the edge of the two walls and placed one subject on the either end of the frame. This juxtaposed the two subjects nicely.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 24-105 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/4.5

  • Shutter Speed: 1/320 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-400

  • Focal Length: 58 mm

  • Metering mode: Spot

Table Lamp

Minimalism as Less Elements

A Black and White Minimalist Photograph of a Table Lamp shot at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur.

A Black and White Minimalist Photograph of a Table Lamp shot at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur.

This shot was taken during a Clay Festival at Jawahar Kala Kendra. You can look at the Table to see cracks and that is proof of clay.

The cracks seem intentional though and they were eye catching therefore.

The Table Lamp is not made of Clay though, and it is just like any other electric Table Lamp.

I was passing by this art Installation casually, like how I did with the previous ones. What made me to stop and give this attention, was the Cracks in the Clay aka the Cracked Clay Desk.

I thought, shooting the cracked clay would make a nice Minimalist Pattern Frame.

Soon, I realized that this was indeed very basic Minimalist Photography and I should improvise. So, I decided to include the Table Lamp along with the Clay desk in the frame.

Initial few shots were taken from the front and they did not do the trick.

It is strange, though I shoot most of my Photographs from the side, I tend to forget doing so most of the time. After about 3 shots I moved to the side of the subject to shoot.

Viewing this from the side, I knew I had my shot.

Since, the lighting was low, I had to take 2 more shots. Obviously, I messed up with the Manual settings in the 1st shot. I still do ;)

Actually, I shot this in Color. But, of all the shots that I had in my folder for this subject, this one looked the best fit for a Black and White Frame.

Thanks to post processing, I now have my Black and White Minimalism Table Lamp Shot ready.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 100 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/8

  • Shutter Speed: 1/60 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-1250

  • Focal Length: 100 mm

  • Metering mode: Spot

  • Exposure program: Manual

Hope you enjoyed the Table Lamp Minimalist Photograph.

Twig Spiral

Minimalism as Less Elements

A Minimal Art Photograph of a Twig Spiral and its Shadow shot at Home Sweet Home.

This shot was taken in the backyard of my House. There is this nice plant climbing all over the Wall Fence, forming these Twigs with different shapes and forms.

I used the 100 mm Canon Macro Lens to capture this shot. The composition is relatively simple. I started by focusing on the Twig Spiral on the lowest possible aperture I could, to ensure decent bokeh in the background/background blur.

The other thing I made sure of, was to get the Shadow of the Twig Spiral right under it, also aligned nicely within the Minimalist frame.

I retouched this Photograph quite a lot in the Editor because, some darker areas were too dark and the lighter ones too light.

Though, editing the RAW version consumed a lot of my time but in the end, I am satisfied with the results.

If you have taken a Picture of a Twig Spiral as well, please do share a link of that in the comments.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 100 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/2.8

  • Shutter Speed: 1/4000 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-100

  • Focal Length: 100 mm

  • Metering mode: Spot

A Minimalist Photograph of Burn Stains on a Wall.

This Wall is from the Parking Area of "Jaipur Center Mall". It looks like there was a fire in here. Something burned, maybe some wires, and they were removed timely. Otherwise, there would have been more of these Black Burn Stains spread all over the wall.

The Composition has been kept very Simple and Minimalist, by placing the Burn Stains on the right hand side of the frame, following the rule of thirds and by accommodating Negative Space on the left hand side.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 24-105 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/18

  • Shutter Speed: 1/ 800 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-500

  • Metering mode: Spot

A looking up Minimalist Photograph of Blue Sky and Brown Walls with lots of negative/empty Space. Photo captured at Jawahar Kala Kendra Jaipur (JKK), Rajasthan, India.

This structure is near the main two Art Galleries at JKK. My intention here was, to capture the walls of the structure in such a way that it forms/represents Lines aka some Simple Geometry, and to show the Clear Blue Sky in the background as Negative Space. (the perfect Minimalist Photography setup)

Also note, I tilted the Camera in my hand (a little bit) to get the right kind of balance between the Lines and Wall structure, and the Overall Frame.

What I got as a plus here was the Shadow Triangle :)

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 100 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/7.1

  • Shutter Speed: 1/1250 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-100

  • Focal Length: 100 mm

A Minimalist Photograph of Six Steps of one of the two Entrance Staircases at Hawa Mahal Jaipur.

This Minimal Art photograph is an improvement over the earlier Minimalist picture that I took at the same place of the same staircase "A Call from the Unknown".

In the earlier photograph, there was a lot of Negative Space and was a very low angle shot. But in this Photograph, you see that I am shooting somewhat top-down and the amount of Negative Space is less.

Also, by adding the 2 Steps turning towards the left and making them disappear after that, I have tried to create some sort of Mystery in the frame to engage the viewer.

Because, I am showing Pure/Simple Geometry as a base in this Minimalist Photograph, therefore, I classified it under the Minimalism as Simple Geometry  category of Minimalist Photography.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 24-105 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/16

  • Shutter Speed: 1/320 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-500

  • Focal Length: 35 mm

  • Metering mode: Spot

  • Exposure program: Manual

A Minimalist Photograph of a Fallen Leaf with 11 Leaflets at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur.

As you can see, the size of the Leaf is pretty small as compared to the rest of the space in the Photograph, therefore I have categorized this Minimalist Photograph under the Minimalism as in Small Objects category of Minimalism.

The Composition is fairly simple. I just placed the Fallen Leaf with 11 Leaflets in the frame according to the Rule of Thirds.

Then, I left lots of Empty/Negative Space on the left and also at the bottom of the frame, to redirect attention back to the Subject.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 24-105 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/7.1

  • Shutter Speed: 1/200 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-320

This Sunday I went to Birla Auditorium that host shows/ seminars on astronomy and science. Some people also call it Birla Planetarium.

Hunting for Minimal Art Photographs, I even reached this place.

I did not think I would find any shot here though.

But I did spot the Side Rail Bar near the sloping Parking Area climb.

From there I started building my shot.

After a couple of clicks, I added some more Lines to compliment the Railing Bar and its shadow.

I mean the lines in the Top right section. Yes, those are Complimentary Lines.

Most of the Photo is Simple Geometric Lines and there categorized into Minimalism as Less Elements.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 50 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/22

This is a Macro / Closeup Photograph of a Kitty's Face that I clicked at the Mad About Dogs pet store in Jaipur.

I have a stray cat and I purchase my food for her from that store.

I went to that store one day with my Canon EOS 6D Mark II and the 100 mm Macro Lens that I have.

They have a few Cats and Dogs for sale in the store and they freely roam around and play with the incoming customers / visitors.

This Cat was comfortably sitting on the billing counter while I was paying for my bill.

I thought It would be a good idea to click a Macro Photograph of hers as she was very still.

Initially, I captured the regular Cat Eyes closeup shots, but soon I remembered, that I could shoot Minimalism as Parts of the Whole.

Therefore, I only shot half of her face in Portrait Mode, with her Nose, Mouth and her Whiskers being visible.

Let's also take a quick look at the EXIF Data for the Photograph.

The EXIF Data for the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Maker: Canon

Photographs of Water Ripples are usually found in Zen Books

The photo above titled "Water Ripple Waves", has a very calming and soothing effect.

The reason for that is, because here the primary focus is "Stillness".

Since Zen is more about keeping quiet than elaborating, I would like to cut short on further details and simply provide the EXIF Data.

EXIF Data:

  • F-Stop: F/5.6

  • ISO: 200

A  Minimalist Photograph of a Low Hanging Twig Of a Plant against a Red Wall.

Today, I would like to keep the write-up very Minimal

This Minimalist Photograph of "The Low hanging dry twig of a plant against the textured red Indian wall", narrates a story/poem on its own. Much has been experienced by the Dry Twig and words lose strength in front of such Photographs. The life and struggles are self-explanatory here.

To capture such a photograph, I first searched for a Red Wall. Then I looked for objects that I could contrast against it.

Green plants/leaves act as very good subjects for such kind of a backdrop but today I chose a Dry Twig

This Shot was taken at Geejgarh Vihar colony, Jaipur on 19th June 2016 with Canon 600D via Canon 50mm 1.4 prime lens. Time: approximately 5.00 pm

If you liked the Style of the Minimalism, please up-vote this Photograph by sharing it on one of your social media accounts.

Thank You - Have a Nice Day / Evening

Some people have been asking me to provide EXIF Data for the photos I post. Today, I decided to provide the same for the shot below. This won't be a regular feature, as I believe that Minimalist Photography has more to do with the photographers vision & composition, rather than the technical details of the shot or the equipment being used. The EXIF Data is as follows:

    • Camera Maker: Canon
    • Camera Model: Canon EOS 600D
    • ISO Speed: ISO 100
    • F-Stop: f/8
    • Exposure time: 1/500 sec

Composition: The photo falls under the "Minimalism as Simple Geometry" category. Simple geometry being, umpteen lines, and the right-angled triangle on the bottom right. The main element is the shadow of the lamp and its unique placement. It falls right on the intersection point of two big lines and sits at the very edge of the diagonal line of the triangle created by the strong shadow. Location: Near Ravindra Manch basement parking area. Jaipur.

This shot was taken on a Sunday afternoon, at Jawahar Kala Kendra yet again, as it is one of my favorite hangouts in Jaipur city. I am usually there for Coffee and to meet the umpteen talented and creative individuals. One would usually find theater artists, visual arts students, photographers, videographers, painters, writers, poets, fashion designers, product designers, philosophers, some enlightened beings and  minimalists like me there.

We all inter-mingle and exchange thoughts over coffee or lemon tea. The vibes are so creative and the experience is one of its kind. I particularly like talking to this one friend of mine, Astha Sharma, who is like my spiritual guide. We discuss a lot of philosophy and spiritualism and I am always surprised by her knowledge. She also likes minimalist dressing, and her general sense of fashion is very good. Many a times I find myself discussing Minimalism in fashion with her & that really helps in understanding the genre as a whole. This particular arrangement of the cushions and the lines in the background, was done by Aman Bhaiya(also a photographer), Astha Sharma and Ayushi for a casual photo-shoot of theirs. I picked upon the arrangement once they were done. I knew I had my Minimal shot waiting for me. Simple Geometry is always way more appealing than other forms of Minimalism. especially when it is more about lines. Well, something about geometry you see. Also, I always jump quickly onto anything that involves light and shadow. The composition has been kept simple and a touch of intricacy has been added by making the lines criss cross

The other notable detail is that the out of focus lines i.e the cushion lines, are coming in from the left and the in-focus lines come in from the right or opposite directions, and that is the highlight of the photo.
