Picking out simple shots from large spaces is challenging, as while you are viewing something busy, it gets very difficult carving out something simple purely from vision. 

I have visited Jantar Mantar Jaipur a few times. The place is full of geometric shapes but it looks very busy to the eyes. Therefore, I haven't got too many shots from there like I have from Jawahar Kala Kendra. 

In the Shot above, I kept the camera setting in the portrait mode or took a vertical shot, to remove the distracting elements from the side. 

I was on the 50mm Lens on my old crop sensor Canon 600D Camera. 

As you would know by now, that I like Juxtapositions a lot and this is another attempt at it, using Simple Geometric shapes aka the "Curve" and the "Arc".

Although it is tough shooting in the afternoon under direct sunlight, but one benefit is that you get your Light and Shadow combination shots mostly right. Especially here, the shot would have been "Too Vanilla" without the shadow within the Arc. 

As far as my position in front of the subject goes, I am not too far and not very close to the subject and the shot is take at around the eye level. 

The shot of course, would have come out different if I had put my 50mm lens on my full frame camera 6D Mark II, instead of the crop sensor 600D, on which I captured this shot. 

To be honest, I shot this in color and later turned into black and white. 

Sometimes, I prefer shooting in the color mode during harsh sunlight, as I get a better on field review on it on the LCD screen, as compared to the black and white photo preview.

A Black and White Minimal Art Photograph of a Square formed by Light versus a Small White Circle

What better gift can you get from nature as a Minimalist Photographer than a Square created by it. It just cannot get any better.

Getting back to basic forms aka Minimalism as Simple Geometry. A Square and a Circle both within a frame is such a treat for the eyes.

This shot was spotted behind the Indian Coffee House Smoking Area, at Jawahar Kala Kendra. There is an extra table there, where there is only self service.

Somewhere near that area I spotted this big Light Triangle created by Nature. Next to it was a White Circular Plate closing an electricity point.

The juxtaposition of shapes, was my immediate thought and therefore I began calculating the placement of these in my frame and at what height. I had the 50mm lens on my Camera, and what better angle to shoot this than at eye-level with such a lens.

The exposure had to be kept in mind as light and shadow combinations are tricky but I managed it OK. The technical details of the Photograph are below.

Lamp In Reflection

A Black and White Minimalist Photograph of the Reflection of a Lamp in a puddle of Water, at Panch Batti MI Road, Jaipur

This shot was taken today with my Cellphone Samsung Galaxy S10. I also performed the editing within the phone itself.

I am pretty satisfied with the output of Samsung Galaxy S10 phone camera and therefore, I have started shooting and posting some of my Cellphone Minimalist shots here.

I have been shooting Street Lamps as subject for a long time now. I have shot this one located at Panch Batti many a times before.

At Panch Batti crossing, one can usually find water puddles post rain. I always go there to peep in side the  water puddles to look for reflections of various possible subject in it.

This particular Street Lamp is situated right at the center of Panch Batti crossing.

Today, its shot came out really well. So it made is here. I actually used the Telephoto Lens of the phone camera, went down on my knees and snapped this at a very low angle. ( you know these photos are flipped when posted).

I did use Snapseed Android App to edit this. I was primarily very happy with the Black and White tones and editing of my Samsung S10 this time.

I would not post the EXIF Data today, as I shot this in the Auto Mode.

Only thing is that as always, I shot this a bit underexposed using manual finger tapping on screen to adjust the same. 

Also, in the composition you can see how I have left negative space on the top and shown the subject i.e The Lamp in Reflection relatively small, as compared to the overall frame.

Here one can spot the Juxtaposition between two Geometrical Forms:

a) Circle ie the White Balloon Vs 

b) The Squares aka Windows.

The White Balloon that you see, was very far from the wall and it was continuously moving. So I had to take quite a few shots to place it properly in the frame. 

Also, you can see a little perspective distortion as I was multi layering the shot and moving quite a bit. I chose not edit the perspective/line distortion, as I generally don't do it and also because it looks somewhat OK to me.

A Black and White Looking-Up Minimalist Photograph of a Flying Bird Vs Simple Geometric Shapes and the Clouds.

 

This shot was taken today with my new Samsung Galaxy S10 Phone. The place is Raj Mandir Cinema Hall (Jaipur). 

 

This is a Look Up / Looking-up Minimalist Shot. 

My starting point of the frame was placing the Simple Geometric Shapes (Line & Rectangle) right. 

I first placed the Rectangle at the bottom of the frame and then aligned the Horizontal Line according to the Rule of Thirds. I then waited for a bird to fly in the frame. 

Usually at the side of Raj Mandir, one can find a lot of Pigeons and they keep flying around every now and then. The time that I was there, I was getting a bird to fly across my frame every 45 seconds or so. I got this one nicely with its wings spread wide enough. 

Not sharing the EXIF Data here, as this Picture has been taken through a cell phone. What I usually do while shooting with a phone is that I shoot a bit underexposed (manual setting) and I always use the 3x3 grid for alignment. 

 

This shot was taken in Color and later transformed into Black and White. I edited this on the laptop though.

Thanks to Post-Rain Photowalks, one gets to find many a Water Puddles on the streets of Jaipur.

This Water Puddle was spotted right in front Albert Hall Museum.

One usually finds a lot of birds near Albert Hall and I took multiple shots to get this one right.

I  waited for about 15 minutes to get these Flying Birds within the Reflection. I got 2 captures and then my patience ran off.

When I reviewed the 2nd shot, I was convinced I got what I wanted.

A Black and White Minimal Art Picture of a Water Pipe running across a Textured Wall. 

This shot was captured outside a Telephone Booth. The walls outside were painted Red, Orange and White. I caught hold of the Orange and White Patch here.

I shot the intersection of the two colors, Orange and White. I kept the White Section on the right, fitting it into the Rule of Thirds area and the larger orange section to the left. Then, during editing, I converted the picture into Black and White.

This Minimalist Photo falls under Minimalism as Simple Geometry. Simple Geometry here being the Lines, namely: a) The Line formed by the Water Pipe running across the wall and b) The Vertical Line formed where the intersection of the different colored walls happen.

Raindrops

A Black and White Minimal Art Photograph of a Raindrops on a Wall.

As they say, make the best of whats available, I captured this Minimalist Photograph in my house. Last Sunday, I was all set to go out for a photowalk, but it started drizzling and therefore I decided to stay back. 

Since I only shoot in Sundays, I decided to switch to Plan B and that plan was to mount my Camera with the Macro Lens that I have and shoot Macro Minimalist Photography in my home/garden.

So What's different in the Composition? 

What I did here was to add that White Horizontal Bar on the Top of the frame, according to the Rule of Thirds. And all the Water drops are rolling downwards forming Vertical Lines.

The Art here is, that all the Lines formed by Raindrops (Water Drops) are Vertical and there is only one Horizontal Line, and that on is going across.

A Black and White Minimalist Photograph of White Paint Lines and a Black Square at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur.

This is near the Main Entrance Door at Jawahar Kala Kendra. Actually, I have cropped the shot a lot here to redo the frame composition.

To be honest, I transformed it from a Landscape Photograph to a Portrait one via cropping. I realized that cropping the frame this way, improved the composition and balance of the elements within the frame.

I had shot this Photograph in both Black and White and Colored Mode, but I chose the Black and White Photograph to edit because, if I were to edit the colored picture, I would have been tempted to keep that one. Also because lately, I am trying to publish as many Black and White Minimal Art Photographs as I can.

Metal Chain Reflection

A Black and White Minimal Art Photograph of the Reflection of a Metal Chain in Water.

This Minimalist Photograph was captured today evening at about 6.30 pm, near Vidhan Sabha Jaipur.
I went out a bit late today, as there was slight drizzle at around 5.00 pm. But, since the drizzle came with an assurance of  Water Puddles, I was OK with it.

Its not easy to find reflections of appropriate subjects in Puddles of Water, as it takes a lot of bending, looking, staring at them in public and getting all the attention and questions from strangers.

Before finding this, I looked at about 15-18 water puddles. 

So why did I choose this Water Puddle?

/i did so because,

a) here the subject aka the Metal Chain's reflection in water was very clear

b) Subject was at an appropriate height.

c) Because the chain was making a curve.

Well, what else I could have asked for? 

I originally shot this in Monochrome. I did not elevate the Photograph much during editing because I wanted to keep the photograph a touch less bright.

Streak Of Light Vs Geometry

A Black and White Minimalist Photograph of a Streak of Light on the Facade of a Building with multiple Windows.

This is inside the Mall located at B2 Bypass. On the top Floor, there is this famous Asteria Cafe. 

I was there that day at the Cafe to Shoot a Model "Priya Mathur", along with a friend of mine named Yatin. 

It was his shoot actually and I was there just to chill out :) 

On my way back I took the stairs. Imagine 9 floors of stairs. 

I do this on purpose, as I find interesting stuff to shoot around the staircases.

I spotted this Streak of Light somewhere from the 7 the floor. 

I had to crop this out a bit during editing, as there were too many windows, resulting in a cluttered image. Though, to avoid the same, I experimented shooting this with both the Landscape and the Portrait version. 

I eventually used the Landscape version here and cropped out a portrait shot, thanks to the mis-alignments and clutter in most shots.

Nobody is perfect you see.  The composition is fairly simple and I have on purpose kept the contrast a touch low here.

A Black and White Minimal Art Photograph of Paint Coming off (decay) from a Metal Sheet of a Sign Board.

This Sign Board was Spotted outside Gate No. 1 at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur. The Paint coming off from the sheet caught my eye. I thought why not just turn the Camera into the Monochrome mode and take a Shot.

I had been waiting to capture such a Photograph for a very very long time, but I guess so far, I did not like and of the decay that I had spotted in such frames.

 Here, somehow the arrangement of the Paint Decay patches, look to be in harmony.

Repeating Rectangles

A Black and White Minimal Art Photograph of the Facade of a building, with Rectangles in Repetition as a Pattern

This shot was taken near Lifestyle Mall / MGF Fall Jaipur. This is a building to its right. I had not captured a Minimalism as in Repeating Shapes Photograph in a while and this tempted me. The only challenge here, was to keep the lines as straight as possible, so that the symmetry appeared right in the frame.

Since I was shooting from the ground, and I was looking up, the lines were not coming out straight. They are not near perfect here though even now.

I did adjust the lines by moving myself to a higher ground and raised the camera as high as possible to view the scene on the LCD screen of the camera.

Since the Repetition of Rectangles here spreads across the frame, some may find this image to be too busy, yet it is not.

It is just one element in repetition. This is a good example of a Maximally Minimal Photograph.

A Monochrome Minimal Art Picture of Lines created by Light and Shadows formation, on the walls of Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.

Sometimes, Light and Shadows help you create subjects, if you are observant enough. This formation was spotted at Jawahar Kala Kendra, while I was on a hunt for Subjects Looking Up at the sky. I generally do so by following color differentials between walls, structures and the sky and also the Light and Shadow formations.  

I clearly saw Simple Geometry aka Lines here as my key element. I knew, this would look decent in Monochrome, so all that I had to do, was to expose the photograph properly and perfect the alignments within the frame.

Flower Petals

A Black and White Minimal Art Photograph of the Petals of a Flower shot at a close range using a Canon Macro Lens.

Minimalism and Nature is great theme to work at when it comes to Minimalist Photography. I mostly shoot walls and geometry but once in a while I shoot such kind of subjects.

Flower Petals are beautiful to capture anytime. 

These flowers actually belong to my own garden. Sorry, I forgot the name of the flower and my mom is now fast asleep, so I can't as her even but I am sure you know what flower this is. 

Anyways, lets get back to the Composition. 

A very obvious shot here would have been shooting this from the Top, aka top-down, and that would have resulted in fairly basic Flower Photography. 

Shooting it from the side(front), helped me to make this look more Minimal and also to keep the viewer guessing about the type of flower I shot.

This is how you can engage/ involve the viewer for a couple to seconds with your photograph. 

Now, you may ask, why Black and White?

Flowers are supposed to be clicked in Color?

Well, we all have our preferences. I shot this in Black in White to keep the photo non-loud and non-attention grabbing, in a way, that's one of the characteristics of Minimalism aka not asking for too much attention.
