A Minimal Art Photograph of a Staircase at Akshay Patra NGO, Jaipur.

I went to Akshay Patra NGO with my relatives one day to visit their Kitchen and understand what they do. They actually provide subsidized meals to many poor people and they feed about 2,00,000 kids everyday across India.

The experience was a thrilling one. On my way, out I saw a huge garden near the exit gate.

From there, while I was waiting for my Cab to arrive, I spotted this beautiful staircase. The fresh Yellow paint got me, though the steps were not that clean and worn out.

This contrast, was the reason I titled the Photograph The Tidy Untidy Staircase.

The Photograph falls under the Minimalism as Simple Geometry category under Minimalist Photography.

This photo might look very simple to Compose but mind you, shooting staircases is not easy. You have plenty to angles to shoot them from and it gets difficult to decide how much to include or what to leave out and still keep it simple.

I took multiple shots, but I chose this one to post here, as this is shot a little Top-Down-ish and slightly from the side.

The shots that I took from the center and straight from the front, turned out to be very flat.

Note: Note how there are Two Stains/Spots in the Staircase on Steps No. 3 and 5 (starting from the left). It is easy to remove these spots during editing, but I have kept them.

There are two ways to look at these Spots.

a) It spoils the frame.
b) It enhances the Art in the frame.

Personally for me, I believe that these spots enhance the frame/ adds interest.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 24-105 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/8

  • Shutter Speed: 1/640 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-100

  • Focal Length: 64 mm

  • Metering mode: Spot

  • Exposure program: Manual

A Black and White Minimalist Photograph of a Streak of Light on the Facade of a Building with multiple Windows.

This is inside the Mall located at B2 Bypass. On the top Floor, there is this famous Asteria Cafe.

I was there that day at the Cafe to Shoot a Model "Priya Mathur", along with a friend of mine named Yatin.

It was his shoot actually and I was there just to chill out :)

On my way back I took the stairs. Imagine 9 floors of stairs.

I do this on purpose, as I find interesting stuff to shoot around the staircases.

I spotted this Streak of Light somewhere from the 7 the floor.

I had to crop this out a bit during editing, as there were too many windows, resulting in a cluttered image. Though, to avoid the same, I experimented shooting this with both the Landscape and the Portrait version.

I eventually used the Landscape version here and cropped out a portrait shot, thanks to the mis-alignments and clutter in most shots.

Nobody is perfect you see.  The composition is fairly simple and I have on purpose kept the contrast a touch low here.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 24-105 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/7.1

  • Shutter Speed: 1/ 1000 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-1000

  • Focal Length: 85 mm

  • Metering mode: Spot

  • Exposure program: Manual

A Minimalist Photograph of a Diagonal Line created by the Siderail of a Staircase.

The Shadows on either side of the Siderail Diagonal Line was what prompted me to capture this subject and create it into a Minimalist frame.

I kept this Photograph colored, as yellow colored walls look fairly pleasing to the eyes.

Also note, I haven't tinkered much with the brightness and contrast of the photograph, as I did not want to overdo anything here.

Light and Shadow Minimalist Photos are a little tricky to edit. Another assumption that you can make is that, I was a bit lazy and therefore I did not make this Photograph pop that much via editing ;) Maybe? ;)

While composing this Photograph the only thing that I had to be careful with, was to shoot the Photograph from the right top-down angle and at the same time leave Negative Space, in a correct manner.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 24-105 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/4

  • Shutter Speed: 1/ 3200 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-100

  • Focal Length: 70 mm

  • Metering mode: Spot

  • Exposure program: Manual

A Minimalist Photograph of A Red Industrial Pipe versus the Black wire on a textured wall near Jaleb Chowk Old Jaipur City.

I first placed the Red Industrial Pipe aka the Water Outlet, on the bottom right of the frame with the Black Pipe towards its left.

I later included a Red Orange Vertical Bar of the wall right next to the Black Wire (towards its left).

I placed this Minimalist Photograph under the Minimalism as Less Elements category of Minimalism for there is not much clutter here.

This is the best part in Minimalist Photography.

You have to keep it Simple despite sometimes the elements being more in the frame.

Some bit of Empty/ Negative Space to the right of the Red Pipe is intentionally kept.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 24-105 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/22

  • Shutter Speed: 1/200 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-4000

  • Focal Length: 70 mm

  • Metering mode: Spot

  • Exposure program: Manual

I found this part of Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) newly painted. This is the Area at the front entrance.

I usually enter JKK from the parking area, but today while I was on my way for the parking, I spotted this.

Thank you JKK for another Minimal Art Photograph.

As you can see from the composition, this Photograph is all about Lines and their interaction with a Small Pipe

Therefore I categorized this under Minimalism as Simple Geometry. (as lines dominate the frame).

On another Sunday while I visited Jawahar Kala Kendra, I visited a Design Exhibition held by INIFD, Pearl Academy Jaipur etc.

The Exhibition was on the first floor and there were sketches of Fashion-wear, some Paintings and even Photographs on the walls. They were also enrolling students for design courses.

Surprisingly, one girl approached me and asked me whether I was looking to get enrolled for a design course. Of course, I said No, but I was happy that she considered me young enough for it, aka probably a teenager ;) I am 37 by the way, now. Haha.

Anyways, While one my way back, I saw this Triangle being formed between the Side Rails of the Staircase that I was supposed to take on my way out.

I flipped the screen to the LCD view, Selected the Monochrome settings and Focused right on the White Triangle.

I took about 6-7 shots and about 5 minutes to finish shooting, as a lot of people were coming in the frame.

5 Minutes Later, I knew I had my Minimalism as Simple Geometry Photograph :)
