A Black and White Look-Up Minimal Art Photograph of an Open Window with Squares and its Shadow falling on a Wall, at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur.

Look-Up Minimalism is Lit.

And when you find a subject like this, it is like hitting the Jackpot. This Open Window was found near the Art Gallery 1 and 2 at Jawahar Kala Kendra.

I usually stroll there on Sundays hunting for Art Exhibitions and Hustling for Minimalist Compositions.

Jawahar Kala Kendra never disappoints. I am amazed myself as to how many different composition I have got from Jawahar Kala Kendra. Just Search my Blog using "Jawahar Kala Kendra" as keyword and you would know. I still can believe it and I am still not tired shooting there.

Anyways, What I liked here was that the Window has 4 Squares in it and the same Squares were also visible in the Shadow. I purposefully shot only a part of the Window to make the composition a bit interesting.

Lastly, The huge Light and Shadow combination is what made my Jaw Drop.

I had to hurry a bit to take the shot, as with past experience I know, shadows change lightning fast and your composition dreams may instantly go for a toss.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

A Black and White Minimal Art Photograph of a Four Lights Versus The Cloud, shot at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur.

This shot was taken right before the Entrance of Cafe Quaint, Jawahar Kala Kendra. I always wanted to shoot these Four Lights but I never found much aesthetic beauty in the frame, even with birds flying across against them.

But, today I found an Abstract Cloud floating in the Sky and I thought that would provide a good Juxtaposition to the Static well shaped Four Lights set.

The Cloud is the reason this frame exists.

OK, but I did a mistake, I shot this Colored. I should have shot this in Black and White.

But, That is OK, I made this Monochrome during Editing.

You see, Photo Frames with clouds in the Sky look amazing in Black and White. Next time, whenever I am to compose a Photograph with a Cloud in the frame, I will shoot in the Black and White/Monochrome mode.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 100 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/10

Black and White Minimal Art photograph of the Dome of Albert Hall Museum Jaipur against the sky, with birds flying across.

Albert Hall Jaipur Museum is a great place to shoot flying birds. You go there anytime of the day and you can spot birds flying across the sky. Whenever I go there I get really tempted to shoot them.

Sure a lot of shots might get cliched but a subtle variation here and there always works.

As you can see in the composition above, I have placed the Dome of the Museum right in the center of the frame, but at the bottom, following the rule of thirds.

Then, I waited for the birds to fly in the frame. I stood there for 5 minutes and took multiple shots.

While editing, I added some Vignetting to the photograph and I cut down on some exposure to get a dark effect in the photograph.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 24-105 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/7.1

  • Shutter Speed: 1/1250 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-800

  • Focal Length: 105 mm

Three Windows Vs Pipe

Minimalism as Simple Geometry

A Black and White Minimal Art Photograph of Three Windows on a Wall with a Pipe on the side.

This shot was taken at MI Road Jaipur, in the lane opposite Indian Coffee House. This is a Lookup Minimal Shot in Black and White. I placed the Three Windows against a Plastic Water Pipe, leaving some empty space in between.

Each of the Three Windows are Square in shape and has 4 Smaller Squares in them. The Pipe on the right is a Straight Line.

Since this frame is overloaded with Basic Geometry, therefore I classified this Minimal Art Photograph under Minimalism as Simple Geometry and not as Less Elements.

The Technical Specifications of the Photograph as below.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 100 mm Prime Lens

  • F-stop: f/16

A Black and White Looking-Up Minimalist Photograph of a Flying Bird Vs Simple Geometric Shapes and the Clouds.

This shot was taken today with my new Samsung Galaxy S10 Phone. The place is Raj Mandir Cinema Hall (Jaipur).

This is a Look Up / Looking-up Minimalist Shot.

My starting point of the frame was placing the Simple Geometric Shapes (Line & Rectangle) right.

I first placed the Rectangle at the bottom of the frame and then aligned the Horizontal Line according to the Rule of Thirds. I then waited for a bird to fly in the frame.

Usually at the side of Raj Mandir, one can find a lot of Pigeons and they keep flying around every now and then. The time that I was there, I was getting a bird to fly across my frame every 45 seconds or so. I got this one nicely with its wings spread wide enough.

Not sharing the EXIF Data here, as this Picture has been taken through a cell phone. What I usually do while shooting with a phone is that I shoot a bit under exposed(manual setting) and I always use the 3x3 grid for alignment.

This shot was taken in Color and later transformed into Black and White. I edited this on the laptop though.

Hope you enjoyed the Bird Vs Simple Geometry  Minimalist Photograph.

A Looking Up, Minimalist Photograph of Shadows on the Red Walls of Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur.

Lines, Edges, Light and Shadow, Red and Blue, Minimal Color Palette. These are the Elements here. Yet, the Photo is not that cluttered and the subject is pretty clear and the frame is easy to comprehend and creative enough.

Also, as a Photographer,  the vision with which I captured this Photograph, and how I want you to see it, is fairly clear too.

This is what Minimalist Photography is all about. A lot of thought goes into the photographs and most of the times the details are hidden in plain sight.

Here is a Lookup Minimal Art Photograph that I clicked at Statue Circle, Jaipur. I had my Canon EOS 6D Mark full frame camera, with the 24-105 mm lens mounted on it.

There was a Balloon Seller there, and this Flying Balloon was tied to the handle of his bicycle.

I went down on my knees, looking up, and waited for the Flying Balloon to get it in the right end of the frame. The full technical details are below.

What motivated me to click this shot "Cutting the Arrow"  was the Black Wire cutting across

To begin with, I was standing too far from the White Arrow, and because of that the Black Wire was nowhere near it.

I kept moving towards the White Arrow till the time I had the Wire cut it (visually) approximately in half.

Note: this is a Look Up / Looking-Up Minimal Shot and it falls under the Minimalism as Less Elements Category of Minimalist Photography.

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

I went to Anchor Mall one day to click some pictures.

At the entrance of the Mall, which is located at Ajmer Road near my house, the guard came up to me and uttered those famous words that I hate to hear "Sir, Photography is NOT Allowed."

I was devastated. I have seen other photographers who had posted nice shots from within the Mall  with Phone Cameras.

Well, I had no other place to go that day so I asked him permission to take photos only outside the Mall. He agreed :)

This brown wall was to my right above a Pan Shop/Kiosk.

I got interested looking at the Two Windows. I could see blue sky through both of them.

So I captured my initial shot in which both Windows had Blue Sky visible through them.

While I Was about to leave, I realized that with a little movement of my feet, I was able to get a Brown Wall of a nearby building in the window on the right, matching the color of the wall and thus making the Window appear closed.

I decided to shoot this composition with "Opposites" as a theme in my mind in which one Window can be seen as Open and the other one Closed

So, that's pretty much about the composition. The Simple Geometry is Obvious here :)

The EXIF Data of the Photo is as follows:

  • Camera Model: Canon EOS 6D Mark II

  • Lens: Canon 100 mm Lens

  • F-stop: f/5.6

  • Shutter Speed: 1/2500 sec.

  • ISO speed: ISO-100

This is a Look-Up / Looking-Up Minimal Shot of a Bird Flying across a Street Lamp near Albert Hall Museum, Jaipur.

This is the third shot from the same spot/location/set-up.

An earlier shot that was posted in the blog-post The Black Crow, had a similar setup but a different editing style.

I have mentioned in my earlier post that its not that difficult getting bird in your picture intentionally.

As you can see in the earlier photograph The Black Crow, this crow is the same as the Crow that you see sitting on top of the street lamp.

This was Shot one frame earlier, while the Crow was still Mid-air, trying to make its journey to the lamp.

Minimalism Category

I mostly categorize such photos under the Minimalism as Less Elements category which is quite apparently visible here as to why I did so.

This photograph took a lot of editing to be frank and the key here was the right amount and style of cropping, or else I would have spoiled the picture.

I also corrected a small tilt in the photograph which I identified by the tilted lamp pole (not any longer visible).

Also, since I already posted two shots from the same place, it was a tough call to post another one here, as I try to post different shots every post.

But, since I love Street Lamps and Birds, so I posted this and do not feel guilty for doing so :)

Have you clicked any similar shots?

If so, do share them with me !

Thanks and Regards

I was at the exact same place earlier as well and what I clicked that day was this shot Two Triangles Vs Lines

So, this is the second shot from the same place, similar angle.

They say "Make the best use of the available resources"

Since my Photography is just a hobby albeit a very passionate one

I go to the places I can, be it the same places, with different lenses, on different days, different time and capture different shots.

Someday, I will be doing full-time photography... waiting for that day...

Till that day comes and I redo, revamp the entire blog and posting style, enjoy these simple expressions of mine :D

Thank you

Geometric Lines Of A Building

Minimalism as Simple Geometry

The intention here is to show Lines as a primary elements aka Minimalism as Simple Geometry

These Geometric Lines were captured at Jawahar Kala Kendra, with my Canon 6D Mark II Camera.

I have titled so many photos for my blog and today I ran out of ideas to title this photograph (PS: I ran out of ideas to title my photos 2 years ago) therefore I simply titled this as Geometric Lines of a Building.

I have taken similar shots before but this time I tilted the camera in my hand a bit to get a different outcome. As you can see, I am also a bit to the right of the subject rather than being right in the front.

When it comes to Minimalism as Simple Geometry

Lines is a subject that can be easily found almost anywhere.

If you want to practice Simple Geometric shots, start with Lines.

Later, you can shoot Doors or Windows ( ie Rectangles or Squares) and then look for other shapes.

OR create some Geometry via Camera Tilt or Your Movement or by Using Shadows to your advantage by cropping some geometry out of it. (not cropping in the computer but by your physical movement, like creating shadow triangles etc)

Again, Like on one of my recent posts, I edited this to keep things more on the Gray side. I did not want more contrast than what we have here.

I don't know why but maybe something in my mind made me do that.

Its always better to follow your mind and not overrule it in art I believe.

Let it have its own freedom and see where it takes you.

With that its a wrap..

See you later.

Good Day !

Triangle Vs Lines

Minimalism as Simple Geometry

A Black and White Look-up Minimalist Photo of Lines and Triangle shot at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur

Minimalism as Simple Geometry. Yes I am back to that here.

I was able to carve out a Triangle between the Lines being formed by the light passing through the piped roof at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur.

therefore, I named this post Triangle Vs Lines and its a kind of Juxtaposition of geometric forms being shown here.

I remember, I was on my Crop-Sensor Canon EOS 600 D camera and the Canon 100mm Prime F/2.8 Macro L Series Lens

The shot was taken at about 4.15 pm.

I was there at Jawahar Kala Kendra that day to attend Jaipur Photographer's Club Annual Photography awards function.

This area was right next to the place. I went in late of course as I was busy shooting.

I shot this in Black and White? NO, but yes I did manage to edit it just OK for it.

I still wanted the Center area or the Triangle to be more bright.

I tried raising the brightness. Then,I realized, I must leave it as near to the original as possible as I want some photos to be a little gray and dull in black and white, rather than all being high contrast with tonality.

That said, I need to rush downstairs for some late night Tea + Snacking :)

Mind you its 33 minutes past Midnight and I am really hungry.

See you !

Sitting Vs Flying Bird

The above Minimalist Photograph of the Sitting Vs Flying Bird was shot near Ravindra Manch, Jaipur - India.

I was there in the parking lot. I had just parked my scooter and I was supposed to proceed for  the Jaipur Art Summit.

I looked over my right shoulder and I saw some birds flying across the sky, especially over the street lamps.

Then, one of the birds aka a Pigeon came and sat on top of one of the Street Lamps. I got interested, right away.

But, I did not want to shoot the Vanilla shot of just the bird sitting on the lamp and nothing else in the scene. Therefore, as a first step I included another Street Lamp in the shot.

OK, so now I had two Street lamps in my frame and a pigeon sitting on one of them.

About 6 months ago I had taken a Mobile Photograph of a group of birds sitting on the wire Vs a group of birds flying across the sky (opposites). That was not a timed shot, rather it was a gift from mother nature. But, I wasn't happy with myself as I wanted a similar shot from a DSLR Camera.

So, this was my chance, and this time I waited for the right moment to create the shot.

I switched my view from the View Finder of the camera to the LCD Screen. Then I moved the focus point on the pigeon sitting on the first street lamp, pressed the shutter button half-way and then waited for more birds to come into my frame.

Initially, a group of birds flew in, but the shape of each bird flying past did not came out the way I wanted, so I disregarded those shots.

I knew I did not have much time as the resting pigeon might fly away any moment.

I waited 30 more seconds and this time I got this lone Black Bird enter my frame and this time I was happy with the shape of her open wings.

So now We know how I created this composition in a Step-wise, Staggered manner.

First one Street Lamp, Later that lamp with a Bird sitting on it, and then another Street Lamp and finally a Black Bird flying across.

Now that we have talked about the composition part, lets also quickly check the Minimalism Classification.

The Photo falls under the Minimalism as Less Elements category of Minimalist Photography.

The Only elements being, just the Birds and the Lamps.

Hope you enjoyed the shot.

What we have here is a "Looking-up" / Look-Up, Black and White Minimalist Photo of Two Lamps, one of them being covered with Shadow.

I clicked this shot during Jaipur Literature Festival 2018 at Diggi Palce Jaipur.

The lamp on the lamp promoted me to shoot it as it was beautifully covered in shadows and the lines created by light on it were too good to look at.

After taking about a couple of shots, I decided to also included the lamp on its side.

The lamp on the left is exposed to the sun and that gave me a chance to display "Opposites" aka one Lamp in Shadow and the other one in the Sun.

Hope you enjoyed the shot.

Keep that feedback coming !

Thank You - Have a Good Day :)

Greetings once again from Jaipur City.

Before I write about this picture, I would like to ask for apology for any editing errors in the Photograph above.

Last week, my Laptop crashed and I bought a new one only 3 days ago.

It took me sometime but finally I got all the software and editing tools to work.

I will take some time getting used to the new Display Screen and other Settings.

I did not have much of a problem though with the Black and White effect here, as I had shot the photo in Monochrome settings.

More on the Photograph

I spotted this Street Lamp Shadow right opposite Poppin Cafe, where I usually hang out on Sunday for a Cup of White Tea.

The Shadow of the Street Lamp on the Textured Wall, was the thing that motivated me to click this subject.

I tilted the camera in my hand a bit to get both the Lamp and its Shadow in the frame.

I did wait for a while for a bird to fly past, in fact about 20 minutes, but I had no luck this time.

I have categorized this picture under the Minimalism as Less Elements category of Minimalist Photography.

The elements being the Lamp (and its shadow) and the Wall.

Hope you enjoyed the shot.  Keep that feedback coming :)

A Minimalist Photograph of a Distant window at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur

This shot is taken from the new Cafe that has opened up at Jawahar Kala Kendra, on the 1st Floor name Cafe Quaint.

I went there last week, just to try their menu and the wonderful Vanilla Tea that they serve.

Of course, other than the menu, my motive was to get at a unique height or what I call "Location Advantage" to create a different sort of a frame. How else am I supposed to get a new Minimalist Photograph from Jawahar Kala Kendra aka JKK?

I have taken so many shots at JKK but just 1 or two from an elevated level.

Hey ! are you wondering that I had actually nothing to with the Cafe and I can go to any extent to get  a Minimalist Frame from a different perspective/angle?

Well, then guess what? Your guess is right.

The Cafe was just an excuse ;)

There is something in this picture that I generally do not do in most Minimalist compositions and that thing is including a foreground element.

The Green Leaves, although  blurred and out of focus, are the Highlight of the Photograph here...It is not accidental.

To start off, I had taken similar shots avoiding the leaves, only to later realize that its the Green Leaves that make the shot and not break it.

Hope you enjoyed the shot. Good Night.
