A Black and White Minimal Art Photograph of a Four Lights Versus The Cloud, shot at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur.

This shot was taken right before the Entrance of Cafe Quaint, Jawahar Kala Kendra. I always wanted to shoot these Four Lights but I never found much aesthetic beauty in the frame, even with birds flying across against them.

But, today I found an Abstract Cloud floating in the Sky and I thought that would provide a good Juxtaposition to the Static well shaped Four Lights set.

The Cloud is the reason this frame exists.

OK, but I did a mistake, I shot this Colored. I should have shot this in Black and White.

But, That is OK, I made this Monochrome during Editing.

You see, Photo Frames with clouds in the Sky look amazing in Black and White. Next time, whenever I am to compose a Photograph with a Cloud in the frame, I will shoot in the Black and White/Monochrome mode.

A Black and White Looking-Up Minimalist Photograph of a Flying Bird Vs Simple Geometric Shapes and the Clouds.

 

This shot was taken today with my new Samsung Galaxy S10 Phone. The place is Raj Mandir Cinema Hall (Jaipur). 

 

This is a Look Up / Looking-up Minimalist Shot. 

My starting point of the frame was placing the Simple Geometric Shapes (Line & Rectangle) right. 

I first placed the Rectangle at the bottom of the frame and then aligned the Horizontal Line according to the Rule of Thirds. I then waited for a bird to fly in the frame. 

Usually at the side of Raj Mandir, one can find a lot of Pigeons and they keep flying around every now and then. The time that I was there, I was getting a bird to fly across my frame every 45 seconds or so. I got this one nicely with its wings spread wide enough. 

Not sharing the EXIF Data here, as this Picture has been taken through a cell phone. What I usually do while shooting with a phone is that I shoot a bit underexposed (manual setting) and I always use the 3x3 grid for alignment. 

 

This shot was taken in Color and later transformed into Black and White. I edited this on the laptop though.

A Black and White Minimal Art Photograph of Balloon Versus Cloud.

Here is a Lookup Minimal Art Photograph that I clicked at Statue Circle, Jaipur. I had my Canon EOS 6D Mark full frame camera, with the 24-105 mm lens mounted on it. 

There was a Balloon Seller there, and this Flying Balloon was tied to the handle of his bicycle.

I went down on my knees, looking up, and waited for the Flying Balloon to get it in the right end of the frame. The full technical details are below.

A Black and White Look Up Minimalist Photograph of a Wandering Cloud travelling across the Sky.

This Minimalist Photograph was shot near Central Park Jaipur. I was on my way to JKK - Jawahar Kala Kendra and near Central Park, I spotted this Big Wandering Cloud. I stopped on the main road, and I was still on my Activa Scooter. I captured 2 pictures of this Wandering Cloud and settled for the 1st one. 

There were 2 other smaller clouds nearby, but I was not able to make sense out of their shapes and needed a supporting element in the frame with them.

This Wandering Cloud was good enough for me, as it covered nearly the entire frame being in the center, and despite that I was able to leave some Negative Space in the frame and follow the basic rules of Minimalist Photography.

There is always a challenge with these kinds of Photographs. These Minimalist Photographs are so simple that sometimes you feel like they are not worthy enough to edit, post, or even to keep it in my folder. I was thinking about deleting this Photograph from my folder only yesterday.

But, today, I realized that, this Photograph deserves a place on my blog for that very same reason, aka for being too simple. It was only a matter of editing. Once the editing was right and the Photo popped, this was in.

This indecision is a big challenge for me as a Minimalist Photographer and this has happened with me on earlier occasions as well.

That said, now let's take a look at the technical details of the Photograph.

The Cloud Split

I always wanted to shoot these lamps. I cross them every Sunday and the opposite direction of the two lamps, always used to intrigue me.

But, somehow I never clicked them. Today, was different. It was different because, today these lamps were Split by a White Minimalist Cloud and of course that's why I titled this post as "The Cloud Split".

The moment I spotted the cloud, I knew I had to take this shot. I did not have much time, as I was on my scooter and I had stopped right in the middle of the traffic. The cloud too was moving fast. I spent about 4 minutes on the shot and the cloud happened to move off-center twice in that time period.

Turning to black and white wasn't easy and I it took me quite a bit of editing to get the grays and whites right. And that resulted in a bit of grains in the shot, but I do not mind them, especially because in Black and White Photography/Minimalism "All is OK".

The Minimalist Classification

The Photo falls under the Minimalism as Less Elements Category of Minimalist Photography.

The Number of Elements being just two:

a) The Lamps
b) The Cloud

Can't get simpler than this.

Here, I have shown the juxtaposition between two shapes/forms 

a) the Abstract Cloud, having no particular form or shape, Versus 
b) The Curve of the Lamp, which has a clearly defined form/shape. 

As you can see I have left negative space on the left, to make the interaction between the two forms/shapes stand out. It was a very tricky shot and I had to maneuver a lot. I moved quite a bit to my left, to first get the cloud right behind the lamp visually. The cloud  was way above the lamp and there was a huge gap between them. To correct that, I moved near the lamp by walking towards it, and went down on my knees to bring the cloud down. The final adjustment was positioning the lamp right in the center of the moving cloud.
