This area is near Exhibition Gallery II at JKK. The main subject here is the White Ball.

Yes, that was my starting point. You must get your starting point correct, as that is what decides your overall frame and composition.

I had a few options here.

a) To shoot this from the front, or

b) Slightly from the side or

c) Like how I did here, from an extreme side angle.

The reason I took such an extreme side angle, was to place the Square on the top or above the White Ball. I wanted to include some more geometry.

Also, the Part of the Window on the left, gives us nice bit of mystery(invokes imagination) by being Parts of the Whole Minimal, Plus, the Window portion is placed according to Rule of Thirds.

A Black and White Minimalist Photograph of Lines Curves and Square as seen on a Wall at Diggi Palace, Jaipur.

No matter how good a Minimalist Photograph looks in Color, it always looks better in Black and White. 

I had shot this in Color. The wall was White and the Black Lines that you see, were Blue in color. This is a wall from Diggi Palace Jaipur. 

While I was editing this Photograph, I was really not happy with the Colors and that was primarily due to the fact that the wall had a yellow tint over it, as this shot was taken during Golden Hour, 

Therefore, I turned this Photograph into Black and White to see how it looked without color. 

As I have said earlier, that once you convert a Photo into Black and White, majority of the times, you would want to leave it Black and White. And that is what happened today as well.

The Composition is a little weird probably, or another way you can call weird in art is, creative. 

I am looking up at the wall from a side angle, trying to fit in the Pattern created with Lines, Curves and Square, yet trying to leave some Negative Space and also trying to make the frame look less cluttered. 

I shot this at 7.1 Aperture

A Black and White Minimalist Photograph of White Paint Lines and a Black Square at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur.

This is near the Main Entrance Door at Jawahar Kala Kendra. Actually, I have cropped the shot a lot here to redo the frame composition.

To be honest, I transformed it from a Landscape Photograph to a Portrait one via cropping. I realized that cropping the frame this way, improved the composition and balance of the elements within the frame.

I had shot this Photograph in both Black and White and Colored Mode, but I chose the Black and White Photograph to edit because, if I were to edit the colored picture, I would have been tempted to keep that one. Also because lately, I am trying to publish as many Black and White Minimal Art Photographs as I can.

To get back to the Composition of the Photograph, this Minimalist Photograph falls under the Minimalism as Simple Geometry category under Minimalist Photography Types as explained HERE (link)

Light Through The Box

OK, so what we have here is A Black and White Minimal Art Photograph of Light Passing through a Box lit via a Light Bulb at Jawahar Kala Kendra Jaipur.

This Photo is a bit Maximal in Nature aka Maximally Minimal, because of shadow spreading all over the frame.

But, in essence the Photo is Minimal because of Less Elements, i.e The Box and the Shadows created via it. No other elements are here. 

If you look at the Photograph ignoring the shadows, then you will be able to see how I composed my shot. I simply placed the Box in the frame according to rule of thirds, leaving negative space on the side. That negative space is where the shadows are.

Rectangle Versus Square Cut Versus Uncut

This Minimalist Photograph was taken right outside Hawa Mahal, Jaipur. 

(I) What prompted me to to take this shot was:

A) Two Simple Geometric Shapes aka the Windows. One being a Rectangle and the Other one being a Square.

B) The second element was Texture and the Patches on the wall.

C) Finally, the 3rd element was the Lines. 

(II) Why I named it Rectangle Versus Square, Cut Versus Uncut?  

Because, If you observe closely, you will find that one Line is cutting the Rectangular Window on the left as it runs through it While the Other Line does not cut across the Square on the right.

This creates the ART here and therefore it is the Key Highlight of the Photograph.

(III) Other Details:

Equipment Used: Canon 600 D with Canon 100mm Prime Macro L Series Lens.

Lets get back to Simple Geometry today. 

We all love geometry, don't we? As soon as I spotted these lines created by the Sun, my eyes opened as wide as they could. And for a few minutes I kept admiring their beauty. I was thanking my stars for what I had stumbled upon, but there was a problem. Shooting only the lines was a shot too simple and mundane. So, I shifted my eyes left, where there was a big window.

To add a bit of spice to the shot, I thought it would be a great idea to carve out a square from the window and show its interaction with the lines. Therefore, I titled this Minimalist Shot as Lines Vs Square.

I took multiple shots and it took me a while to bring the two visible sides of the square to approximately equal lengths . Later, I adjusted the levels in a photo editing software to make the shadows appear darker.

I have kept the focus point on the bottom right corner of the textured wall and cut it into a partial White Rectangle. I kept moving to my right to also get that contrasting Black Square in the background. The contrast between the two geometric shapes is shown to depict contrasting lives of two different people,. The Black Square depicts a struggler whereas, the White Rectangle depicts the life of someone with "Good Fortune"

The photo falls under Parts of the Whole category of Minimalism, as it contains a clipped (or part) version of two walls.

Shapes communicate well with the sub-conscious mind especially when it comes to Simple Geometry. I personally love Squares, All four sides of a square are well measured and equal, psychologically hinting at a perfectly planned and a well crafted Life. That could be my reason as to why I love Squares.

What is the Simple Geometry shape that you love? and Why? Leave your answer in the comments. That would be interesting to know.

Many observers would see this as 9 squares, but a hardcore Minimalist has the ability to zoom out and consider the window itself as 1 big Square having 9 squares in repetition within it, making a total of 10 Squares.

Perspective is what matters the most in Minimalism and a change of perspective can do wonders for your photography, not only Minimalist Photography but other compositions/photography genres as well.

A Minimalist Photograph of a White square on a grainy Black Wall.

The walls were in fact red in color as this was shot at Jawahar Kala Kendra, but capturing red as the actual red you saw with naked eyes via your DSLR's aint that easy, unless you work with high quality prime lenses to shoot from.

Or maybe the case is that I am jinxed to shoot Red. (maybe not)

I mostly capture Minimalist Photographs with a multipurpose zoom lens as of now i.e. the Canon 55-250 mm. Sometimes it gives me great sharpness and color while I am not zoomed-in much and at other times, the results are not so great. But, I never delete those not so great shots as I kind of recycle them.

Well, here is the trick. The shots in which you cannot fix the color even in editing, simply convert them to Black and White. I follow this rule religiously, but keep in mind that you can only rescue a Photograph if it is well composed to begin with.

Some people also crop out Minimalist Frames out of the Whole image instead of capturing the exact same Photograph on the spot. I generally don't do this. At least that's not the intent I stand with the Camera in my hand in front of Photography subjects.

I placed the White Square in the bottom of the frame, in order to follow the Rule of Thirds. The lines on the sides and above the White Square, balances the overall frame.

Looking for geometry on the walls is one of the best ways to shoot Minimal, but make sure your are out there in the Sun. Shoot between 4-6 pm and you will find the best of shadows and the games they play. As you can see here I have left negative space on the right and placed my subject in the top left corner. I could have clipped or evened out the Waves using more height for the shot or through a software but those are kept on purpose as that repetition adds beautifully to the simple geometric shapes here i.e the Circle and the Square.

Minimalism as Simple Geometry

Here, geometry within geometry is placed and dimension play is used. I placed that vertical rectangular door in the top right corner, within a white square. In fact, the white square lies within another white square(i.e the white outer border). Spotting geometry is one thing and having fun with it visually is another. That is the thing about minimalist visual art. One should know how to have fun with the elements in the frame. The best was is to keep experimenting, placing the elements in different places/corners in the frame. One should also exercise caution, as sometimes, over experimentation kills the shot rather than enhancing it.
